MATT'S COMMUNICATIONS

President's Communications

Wednesday, May 1, 2024

Morning.

We had a couple of questions come up at the Membership meeting last Saturday that I received answers on that I wanted to get out to everyone.

  1. Skilled Trades canvass in Belvidere to backfill openings in Kokomo. At this point, Kokomo hasn't put in any reqs for additional manpower. When/If they do, they'd be looking to canvass to fill those spots from the laid off members within the corporation. Canvassing hasn't begun, there's no timeline for it. When I get more information, I'll get it out to everyone.
  2. Loss of pension credits for the years that we are on layoff. In this contract, there weren't any agreements to waive the requirements for receiving pension credits while on layoff. As it stands now, most members will have to make up pension credit years starting in 2025 until we return to work. The second part of the Benefits Reps posting below explains the 170-hour requirement for pension credits.
  3. Medical coverage- The Benefits Reps have a posting below that states we have our medical coverage while we are laid off. There have been concerns that we'd lose our insurance in 2026. This is not the case. The date on the posting shows how long the coverage is in for, it is not there to specify when we'd be returning to work or to suggest that we wouldn't be back until then. Based on the information given to us at the tentative agreement roll out, we'd be back to work in 2027.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED-
Northern Illinois Food Bank distribution on Saturday May 4th at 10:00am. We are in need of volunteers for this event. If you are interested in volunteering, please show up at the Hall at 8:45am.

****Please keep an eye on the Detroit News, over the next few days. There's been some articles about a potential strike vote being taken at the Warren Stamping plant. If I get any details as this unfolds, I'll get that information out to everyone.

Organizing Committee

I am looking for members that are interested in joining the Local's Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee was added into the Constitution as one of the standing committees that each Local should have. If you are interested in this committee, please reach out to me. Once we have this committee set up, we will have training from our Regional Organizing Department.

We do have some plans for some organizing events in the area. We've been contacted by some employees from some businesses in the area that would like our help.

Thanks.
